In 2017, the NGO Justalegría designed and carried out a project to increase the resilience of two rural areas in the Dominican Republic that were vulnerable to climate change.
With funds from the AACID (Andalusian agency for international cooperation), the project’s main objectives were the construction of shelters in the face of natural disasters, the creation of prevention -, relief – and reply teams, and the launch of an awareness program for the schoolchildren in these communities. This last one was implemented in the two Primary schools that exist in the area.
Throughout this period, various activities were carried out with the students and their families, with the goal of creating documentation of good practices in the fight against climate change.
In this context we created the activity book: “The world we want. From climate change to Sustainable Development”. This book, illustrated by Alba Zapata, tries to explain the causes and possible solutions of climate change, in an enjoyable and interesting way. Some of the challenges are illustrated by contemporary works of art, of which the artists generously granted us the images.
This material is aimed at children in Preschool and in the first cycle of primary school.
